When you’re planning a wedding, there are so many things competing for your budget. The venue, the flowers, the dress, the food, the bar, the music, the stationery. All of the little details you’ve spent months carefully choosing. All of those things matter, and they’re part of what makes the day feel like your wedding day.

But when the night is over, almost all of them are gone. The flowers wilt, the food gets eaten. The champagne gets poured, and the music ends. Your dress or suit gets tucked away in a closet, maybe to be pulled out every once in a while. Other than your partner and the memories you made together, there are very few tangible things you actually take with you from your wedding day.

On the morning after your wedding, your photos are exciting because you get to relive everything that just happened.

Five years later, they mean something different.

Twenty years later, they mean even more.

Eventually, a photograph of your mom helping you into your dress isn't just a getting-ready photo. A video of your dad laughing during cocktail hour isn't just a candid clip. The way your best friend danced, the expression on your partner's face when they saw you for the first time — these become pieces of people and moments you can't recreate.

That's the part of wedding photography and videography that I don't take lightly.

I'm not only creating something for you as you are today. I'm creating something for the version of you who will look back on these photographs decades from now.

There are parts of a wedding where you can spend less now and change your mind later.

You can upgrade furniture in your home, you can buy another beautiful dress. You can take another vacation, you can go back to an incredible restaurant.

But you can't recreate your wedding day.

There is a difference between thoughtfully directing when direction is needed and manufacturing moments simply because they'll look good in a photograph.

I would much rather photograph the way your grandmother actually reaches for your hand than ask her to do it again for the camera. I want the laughter to be real, and the tears to happen when they happen.

Of course, there are moments when I'll step in. I'll help you find beautiful light. I'll guide you through portraits so you don't have to wonder what to do with your hands. I'll organize family photographs and make sure the people who matter are documented. But the goal isn't to manufacture a wedding that photographs beautifully.

It's to photograph your wedding beautifully.

Your photographer and videographer are with you for a significant portion of one of the biggest days of your life.

That matters.

Experience isn't only about knowing which camera settings to use. It's knowing how to handle a timeline that's running behind without making you panic. It's working alongside your planner, venue and other vendors without making the day feel like a production.

It's being prepared when the weather changes, the light disappears, the ceremony starts late or something doesn't go according to plan.
